Slapton Sands
Slapton Sands is a unique three mile long shingle beach backed by Slapton Ley, a freshwater lagoon and nature reserve. The beach is steeped in history, having been used as a rehearsal site for the D-Day landings during World War II. It’s a peaceful location for sunbathing and swimming, with the nearby nature reserve offering opportunities for wildlife spotting and tranquil walks.
Hope Cove
Hope Cove consists of two beaches, Mouthwell Sands and Harbour Beach, both offering golden sands and a charming village backdrop. This picturesque cove is perfect for families, with safe swimming areas and plenty of rock pools to explore. The sheltered location makes it a favoured spot for sunbathing and enjoying the scenic surroundings. Hope Cove is also a starting point for many coastal walks along the South West Coast Path.
East Portlemouth
Just across the estuary from Salcombe, East Portlemouth boasts a series of secluded sandy beaches and coves, including Mill Bay and Fisherman’s Cove. These tranquil spots are ideal for swimming, sunbathing, and relaxing away from the crowds. The area is also popular for kayaking and paddleboarding, offering serene waters and stunning views across the estuary.
Salcombe North Sands and South Sands
Located a short distance from Kingsbridge, Salcombe North Sands and South Sands are two beautiful beaches that offer a combination of sandy shores and lush surroundings. North Sands is family friendly with amenities such as cafes and parking, making it convenient for a day out. South Sands, accessible by a scenic ferry ride from Salcombe, is perfect for water sports like sailing and windsurfing, as well as for leisurely beach walks.
